If you come across this article I assume you are planning to bask on the Greek islands ! Or at least I hope you are ;)

Because, sincerely, Greece is beautiful, and note that I have seen only a tiny part of it.

With the idea of seeing as many things as possible, and not being bored, we split our stay on two islands : the first 4 days on Agistri island, and the last 3 on Aegina island.

ACCOMODATION : AGISTRI

After 2 hours driving headind to Barcelona, 4 hours flight, 1 hour in a bus from Athens airport to Athens port, and 1 hour on the ferry ... Welcome to Kekrifalia Hotel !

The first thing I would like to point out is the extreme friendliness of the staff and owners! When we arrived on the island, the team came to pick us up at the port, and the contact was immediately emotional.

The hotel is subduing with beauty : everything is clean, up to date, by the sea ... The hotel even offers wedding receptions ... You can know imagine how beautiful it is. But still, I prefer to let you discover by yourself

We booked two little houses for 4 people each, and they were really nice, and the view was breathtaking. A little small, but anyway, we were only there to sleep!

ACCOMODATION : EGINE

Having to leave the Kekrifalia Hotel and its staff really hurted us. It really was a crush for all of us, it was difficult to find another hotel at the height. But we did not really have the choice, we already booked a few nights at the Mistral Hotel on Aegina island.& We left, we embark on the ferry for 30 minutes.

I won’t lie, we were all very disappointed with this property :

  • The quality of the breakfast was deplorable

  • The decoration did not recall Greece but rather Spain

  • The decor of the rooms was seriously lacking in taste (do not call me princess, but when it's not pretty, it's not cozy!)

  • The staff was friendly but always on our backs

In other words, personally I do not recommend !

TO DO : AGISTRI

When you talk about visiting, you first think of the way you’re going to do it. The island is very small with its 13.4km area and its 4 small villages. The most widespread engine is ... the scooter ! In 4 days we crossed 3/4 cars maximum. Must admit that for 10€ a day, the scooter is really the ideal. But under all, it's great because we laugh well and we keep very good memories of discovering the island this way.

Speaking of restaurants, I recommend the hotel, and those on the seafront which serve fresh fish from the morning. You will only have to pay 10€/pers very easily!

13,4km of surface, 4 villages and 6 beaches (more beaches than villages, never seen!) ... Let me tell you that the tour is quickly done, and you may better understand our willingness to share our holidays on two islands.

To see what to visit on the island I advise you to go to the following website: http://www.agistrigreece.com/

You will find the beaches, the villages and the activities. In addition to what you read on this site, you can also always call a taxi in order to see wild creeks for example!

TO DO : AEGINA

The Aegina island is about 6 times larger than Agistri (87.4km of area), there will be more things to see and ti do : around thirty villages, about twenty beaches, temples, museums, shops ... Seems to be promising !

Yes BUT ... Besides Aegina Town (which is the island’s, on which we also docked when we arrived), the village of Perdika and the Temple of Aphaïa ... It was ugly! The rest of the island we saw was only scrublands and A-BAN-DONNED (whole resort complexes for example). My grandparents who have been going to Greece every year for quite a while have said that Aegina Island was part of the TOP 3 of the worst Greek islands they visited.

To find out more about what to visit on Aegina Island, I would like to share with you the following website : http://www.agistrigreece.com/

CONCLUSION

Because we left off season, the majority of hotels and restaurants were closed, and the beaches were not laid out. The temperature in April was about 23°C to 25°C, much enough to wear dresses when the wind doesn’t blow too much.

If you want to be away from tourist crowds, family or couples, of course I recommend the Agistri island, and especially the Kekrifalia Hotel to accomodate you. This island was so nice!

Perhaps it would be even more interesting to go there at the end of Spring or at the end of the Summer (June or September) : temperatures would be a bit higher, the spaces still fitted out for the arrival of tourists / restaurants / etc ...)

What is important to have in mind when going off-season is that the shops and restaurants of the islands are almost all closed, since the owners live in Athens as soon as summer is no longer season.

On the other hand, if you are looking for Greek temples and landscapes like on postcards, I would not recommend either of these islands :

  • Agristri is very pretty, the lanes are whitewashed, and the water is transparent, but there are no Greek ruins to visit unfortunately

  • Aegina was far, far away from what I imagined about the beauty of Greece

Otherwise, seems that Corfu island of is also beautiful but not overpriced :)

See it by yourself here
